Dear GalleryArtists,
I am right at this very moment at my studio; that fact by itself could be considered a miracle in modern times, but I digress. My attention is being pulled every which way and now that I am here I am blankety-blank… Yep, blank.
It’s been a loooong time since I have gone to an art gallery or museum and found art that inspires me to the core. You know the type, the show that propels you, like a pellet in a BB gun (Sure, I could have used a more violent metaphor but I exercised restraint!
to go to your studio and make -whatever it is that you make.
Have you seen a show like that lately? I’m really curious. Do share.
Have I been shocked in an art show? Sure. Flabbergasted? Yes. Rendered temporarily blind. Absolutely. Offended, not yet.. Although there was a year that all you could see was penises and vaginas in every form and direction, they where painted, photographed, alone, in action, together, by themselves… and well you get tired of this after the twentieth piece of artwork that uses human sexuality as a way to shock.. (yawn).
But, Is there artwork (of the Contemporary art breed) out there that is inspired? That is the question here.
I can cite many shows over the years but nothing lately. Ok, granted, locally I’m limited so I have taken to the internet for a fix of this sort.
I have, at times, googled “Contemporary art” to see image results ’cause I just want to see the art, I don’t want to read and or think art.. sometimes. Is that soo wrong?? . Come on, you know you buy Artforum and only look at the pictures. Only when I see an image that is interesting enough do I stop and read… There, I did it, I confessed (for you too?).
But seriously..
Inspiration: where do YOU get it?
Yours truly,
Mariestella
